Dr. Potter, an Oregon native, is board-certified with the American Board of Otolaryngology, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a trained Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, and Chief of Maxillofacial Trauma at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon. He completed both his Otolaryngology and Oral and Maxillofacial Residencies at University of Washington School of Medicine. He holds a dental degree from the University of Oregon and a medical degree from University of Washington School of Medicine.
Dr. Potter has practiced in the Portland area for over twenty years in the specialties of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Otolaryngology. He is the founding partner of Head & Neck Surgical Associates (HNSA), as well as Columbia Otolaryngology Group Incorporated (COGI). Dr. Potter serves on the board of directors for Trauma Specialists, Inc., a multidisciplinary group of trauma surgeons. His dental practice includes the removal of wisdom teeth, and the placement of dental implants. His medical practice includes head and neck cancer, head and facial trauma surgery, orthognathic surgery, facial reconstruction, the management of temporomandibular joint disorders, facial cosmetic surgery and complete body liposuction. Dr. Potter is Clinical Professor at Oregon Health & Science University and is active in resident and fellow education.
Dr. Potter enjoys hunting, fishing, global travel, golfing and spending time with his wife, two children and four grandchildren.
Dr. Dierks was born in Ohio and moved to Portland from Dallas, Texas where he had served on the full-time faculty of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Dierks is a graduate of both the dental and medical schools of the University of Louisville. He completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the Medical Center of Delaware and his otolaryngology/ head & neck surgery residency at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School / Parkland Memorial Hospital. He is one of only about a dozen American surgeons that are board-certified in both Oral -Maxillofacial Surgery and in Otolaryngology. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
The medical aspect of Dr. Dierks’ practice focuses on head and neck cancer and reconstructive surgery with a special emphasis as well as extensive experience in oral and salivary gland tumors. The dental aspect of his practice involves the removal of wisdom teeth and the placement of dental implants and related jaw surgery. He is a leader in the often challenging dental implant rehabilitation of patients with special needs such as those without natural teeth who desire implant-supported prostheses and those who have previously undergone cancer surgery and radiation therapy. He is actively involved in the training of fellows in head and neck surgery, as well as oral and maxillofacial surgery residents through Oregon Health Sciences University and the University of Washington and holds the title of Clinical Professor at each institution.
Dr. Dierks has lectured nationally and internationally and has been invited to teach surgery in India, Europe and Australia. In addition to his service to patients from the Portland area, he regularly sees patients who come from other parts of North America and from other continents. Dr. Dierks has published extensively in numerous national and international books and professional journals. Once an auto mechanic, he remains interested in automotive technology and enjoys traveling with his family.
Dr. Bell, a Texas native, is a board-certified surgeon who is trained in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Head and Neck Surgery. Educated in the European tradition of maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Bell holds a dental degree from Creighton University and a medical degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency was also completed at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He subsequently completed specialized fellowships in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology, as well as Craniomaxillofacial Trauma and Cosmetic Surgery at Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health Center in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Bell’s scope of practice is broad due to his comprehensive training in head and neck surgical procedures. His clinical interests are focused upon head and neck oncologic (cancer) surgery, orthognathic and reconstructive jaw surgery, facial reconstructive surgery resulting from trauma or tumor ablation, and alveolar bone graft reconstruction in preparation for dental implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation.
Currently, Dr. Bell is Attending Surgeon and Co-Director of Resident Education on the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service at Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health Center; Clinical Assistant Professor at Oregon Health & Science University; Affiliate Assistant Professor at the University of Washington; is actively involved in resident and fellow education; and lectures extensively to national and international audiences. Dr. Bell continues conduct original clinical research and has published numerous clinical and scientific articles on subjects of interest related to oral cancer, facial reconstruction, craniomaxillofacial trauma and orthognathic surgery.
When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children, music, golf, fishing, and scuba diving.
